Introduction

The main purpose of the programme is to impart knowledge in general nutrition with the focus on human nutrition and community nutrition that are relevant to the Malaysian context.  It aims to produce versatile graduates to fulfil the needs of the discipline, the healthcare profession and the future job market. The programme employs a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, and the school consists of academically qualified people in the fields of nutrition, dietetics, food science, basic sciences, medicine, social sciences, management, and community services.  Students are exposed to various aspects of foods, nutrient requirements, dietary intake, assessment of nutritional status, healthy eating and lifelong nutrition.  Students will also experience laboratory work in food preparation and food analysis and at the same time, they will be carrying out fieldwork to evaluate nutrition and health status in the community.  The final year students will conduct a research project and write a dissertation.  The mode of teaching and learning includes lectures, practical, fieldwork, seminars, self-study, e-learning and individual supervision.
