TOP 5 SPECIAL AWARD AT MIIX 2026
GOLD AND BRONZE MEDALS, ALONG WITH A TOP 5 SPECIAL AWARD AT THE MALAYSIA INVENTION AND INNOVATION EXPO 2026 (MIIX 2026)
The Biomedicine Programme, School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of its student innovation teams at the Malaysia Invention and Innovation Expo 2026, which was held virtually on 25 May 2026. The prestigious national-level event was organised by Universiti Teknologi MARA participated by 89 experts, 204 university students, 52 high school students, and 34 junior school students.
The first team, led by undergraduate students Nur Syafiah Anvar Mydin and Wan ‘Asfa Salsabila Wan Zulkifle under the mentorship of Ts. Dr. Nurhidanatasha Abu Bakar, achieved an outstanding victory by securing a gold medal together with the Top 5 Special Award in the University Student Innovator category. Their innovative project, entitled GreenNanoGuard: A Dual-Plant Nanoemulsion Innovation from Sireh Hutan and Serai Wangi for Sustainable and Chemical-Free Crop Pest Management”, impressed the judges with its sustainable and research-driven approach toward environmentally friendly pest management solutions.
Further adding to the success of the Biomedicine Programme, the second team comprising Muganesh Raj A/L Anand and Nur Fathin Syahidah Mohd Latif, also mentored by Ts. Dr. Nurhidanatasha Abu Bakar, was awarded a bronze medal for their project entitled “TrekGuard Bio PA-Band: Wearable Mosquito Protection”. The innovation highlights a practical and user-friendly approach to personal mosquito protection through wearable technology.
These achievements reflect the continuous commitment of the School of Health Sciences in cultivating innovation, research excellence, and entrepreneurial skills among students. The accomplishments also demonstrate the dedication and strong mentorship provided by academic staff in guiding students toward impactful scientific innovation.
