1. A Radiation Protection Officer (Medical) [RPO(M)] is a competent individual in technical aspects, procedures, and radiation protection measures in hospitals/clinics. All government and private healthcare premises that possess radiation apparatus for medical purposes are required to employ one or more qualified and competent RPO(M) as stipulated under Part III Regulation 16(1), Radiation Safety (Basic Safety) Regulations 2010, subsidiary under the Atomic Energy Licensing Act (Act 304).

2. The RPO(M) Certification Training Course is a series of courses organized by the School of Health Sciences (PPSK) in collaboration with Hospital Pakar USM (HPUSM). The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), through Circular No. 23/2025 dated 20 August 2025, has mandated all RPO(M) in Malaysia to attend certification training courses in accordance with the requirements of Act 304.

3. PPSK in collaboration with HPUSM is the first Training Centre in Malaysia recognized by MOH to offer the RPO(M) Certification Training Course for medical purposes [Class H License (License No.: KKM/0559)].

4. A total of 7,333 RPO(M) registered and licensed with MOH are required to attend the training course offered by PPSK-HPUSM starting from the enforcement date of 20 August 2025.

5. PPSK-HPUSM successfully organized 2 series of training courses involving 66 RPO(M) participants in 2025.

6. More frequent course series will be organized in the following year according to MOH requirements and compliance obligations under Act 304.
