On 22 December 2024, the Secretariat of Nutrition and Dietetics successfully organized the "Chef Sihat Junior" workshop at the Food Preparation Science Laboratory, School of Health Sciences, USM. This engaging program aimed to introduce children aged 7 to 12 to healthy eating habits through the joy of cooking while fostering essential life skills such as teamwork, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen.

The event attracted 44 enthusiastic children, supported by 39 dedicated committee members, including three USM staff members. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Zafirah Mohd Nor and Pn. Nurzetty Sofia Zainuddin.

According to program director Danny Iskandar Bin Jainal, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about healthy eating habits among children while teaching basic cooking and baking skills. Activities included baking sessions, healthy eating classes, a prize-giving ceremony, and a fun photo session. The nutrition class, led by Danny Iskandar, covered key topics such as the Food Pyramid, Suku Suku Separuh Pinggan Sihat Malaysia, the importance of milk, healthy vs. unhealthy food, and allergy awareness.

Each child received their own apron, sparking excitement and enthusiasm among the young participants. The lively atmosphere was filled with laughter and focus as the children worked on their culinary masterpieces. Beyond the fun, the workshop provided valuable lessons in nutrition, creativity, and responsibility. Participants learned how to measure ingredients accurately, the importance of balanced meals, and the value of teamwork.

By blending education with enjoyment, the "Chef Sihat Junior" workshop successfully inspired children to form positive relationships with food from an early age. The event highlighted the importance of nurturing healthy eating habits and essential life skills in children, empowering them to make informed and nutritious choices.
