Lawatan Ilmiah Pelajar SMJK Chung Hwa ke PPSK dan SPICES USM
On the 2nd of January 2025, Biomedicine Program, School of Health Science, USM had successfully held “Science Technology and Innovation 100 on the Power of Three" (STI 100^3) Program: ‘Lawatan Ilmiah Pelajar SMJK Chung Hwa, Kota Bharu ke PPSK dan SPICES USM’, under the lead of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Suat Cheng as the Program Director.
The STI 100^3 Program is an initiative by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the driving agency Akademi Sains Malaysia (ASM). This program involves 100 scientists, 100 schools and a 100-day implementation period throughout the nation, as one of the nation’s efforts in fuelling and intensifying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in the community, especially for students and youth through non-formal learning activities outside the classroom.
During the half day program, the students had an opportunity to hear talk from Prof. Dr. Wan Rosli Wan Ishak, the Dean of School of Health Sciences entitled “From Waste to Wealth”, besides getting to know the academic programs offered by this school delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr Nurul Asma Abdullah. The students also got an opportunity to visit the Space for Interactive Medical Studies (SPICES), an interactive gallery showcasing real body organ specimens and human body systems.
This program provided an enriching educational experience for the 38 selected Form 4 students from SMJK Chung Hwa Kota Bharu, offering them the opportunity to explore the vibrant intellectual environment at USM's Health Campus. We hope to deepen their understanding and ignite their interest in pursuing tertiary education in the field of health sciences.
